Mistakes are inherent in medicine. We don’t like to think about that. As veterinarians and staff we realize this, yet many times are not well prepared for those times when mistakes happen. How do we improve ourselves, so that the failures do not define us and make us afraid to try to help our patients again? Fortunately, we do not have to figure this out ourselves; others have navigated these challenges. We will explore several ways to evaluate our mistakes and improve our realization that mistakes are not defining, and in the process improve our patient’s care.
